A wine of great character and personality. It displays complex, embracing texture and marked elegance that is enhanced by perfect balance. The colour is deep, bright ruby red. Entry on the palate suggests notes of black cherry; smooth, noble tannins and clear minerality wed with delicate hints of toastiness and almost coffee aromas. The finish is very, very long.

– Winemaker at Barone Ricasoli Wines
The Chianti Classico Castello di Brolio, which uses the best grapes of the estate’s 500 acres of proprietary vineyards, offers full and expansive aromas of blackberry and blueberry fruit, meat, and gravel, a powerful and concentrated palate, and a strong, savory finish with much cassis, sage, and minerals. Drink: 2006-2018. The only question here is why so little interest and attention is given to Sangiovese – driving up to the place where one of Italy’s major wines was born through rows of Merlot is a slightly disconcerting experience, to say the least.

About the Estate:

The Ricasoli family ancestry has roots from the ancient Longobarde family fating all the way back to the 7th century. The Ricasoli history began as part of the noble feudal family of the Emperor Carlo Magno.

Actually they made a complete renovation of the estate. Lasrge investment were made to restore the land and it's original grape varieties (that has been in the estate for centuries) as well as for the winemaking facilities and cellars. The 500 acres of vineyards, all of which are located around the castle, hace been completely replanted with two objectives: to reconstruct the personality of each vineyard according to ancient traditions and persue the continuous role of producing excellent wine, which began in the 19th century, while incorporating a modern element.

The famous enologist Carlo Ferrini oversees the winemaking at Barone Ricasoli giving the wines a modern and innovative character. www.ricasoli.it
