Añejamiento: 18 months in 40% french and 60% american oak and 3 more months in large oak vats
"I reviewed the 2006 Valbuena in Issue 189 (June 2010) when it was in bottle, but not yet released. It is composed of 80% Tempranillo with the remaining 20% Merlot and Malbec (the latter a rarely seen grape in Spain). Another 8 months in bottle seems to have resulted in a more expansive bouquet with notes of wood smoke, pencil lead, lavender, Asian spices, black cherry and blackberry Rich, voluptuous, and lengthy on the palate, it is hard to resist now, but will continue to blossom for several more years and drink well through 2026
".

About Vega Sicilia:

Vega Sicilia is located in the Ribera del Duero Denominacion de Origen in the north of Spain. The winery was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lacanda y Chaves, who planted various grapes from Bordeaux, including the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties, which are used in the modern wines.

The wines of Vega Sicilia are regarded as among the best offered by Earth. The main grape grown for the wines is the local Tempranillo. The process of making a wine at Vega Sicilia is famously meticulous leading to extremely low harvest yields and a very long aging period, but resulting in a wine that is highly prized for its complexity and ability to mature gracefully. www.vega-sicilia.com
