(75% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo and 10% Graciano; aged for 6 months in large wooden vats, then moved to new French oak barrels for another 18 months): Bright purple. Explosive aromas of dark berry preserves, cola, Indian spices and woodsmoke, with a sexy floral topnote. Smooth, palate-staining black and blue fruit flavors show impressive vivacity and focus for their power. Sweet, spicy and extremely persistent on the finish, showing very smooth, harmonious tannins.

– 94 points (Stephen Tanzer Wine International Cellar)

Raised for 16 months in French oak and inspired by the family’s respect for Bordeaux, the 2009 Torre Muga has a very primal bouquet with creme de cassis, black currant and vanilla with fine delineation, although it is very tight at the moment. The palate is full-bodied with grippy, bold, assertive tannins and layers of dense black, mocha-tinged fruit with hints of white pepper. It has great power and volume without compromising balance, although it requires several years in bottle. Drink 2018-2035.

– 92 points, Neal Martin (Robert Parker, Wine Advocate)

This muscular red delivers savory flavors of dried herb, anise and loamy earth, with ripe cherry and blackberry fruit, backed by firm tannins that give way to a smoky finish. Nicely focused. Drink now through 2022. 400 cases made.

About Muga:
For Bodegas Muga, tradition is a way of life that is now so deeply rooted, that it has become almost law. Our tradition is based on wood, whether it be used to form, tubs, casks, beams or pillars. Muga has changed the rules of ageing, exceeding the minimum limits to produce RESERVAS that taste like GRANDES RESERVAS and GRANDES RESERVAS that taste like the GREATEST wines of the region and world. Nevertheless, although it may seem somewhat paradoxical, this working philosophy has not prevented us from making wines that are perfectly in tune with modern times.

At Muga, we make our own oak vats and casks, and carry out all our wine-making, ageing and storage activities using oak. Our casks are made from French and American oak and are replaced at least once every ten years.
