Muscular and harmonious, the nose offers sensations of plum, blackberry and delicate cherry. These aromas are echoed on the palate where they are flanked by embracing notes of chocolate. Deep ruby, almost purple, in appearance, its colour confirms the taste sensations. Extremely ageable..

– Winemaker at Barone Ricasoli Wines
The Casalferro is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot that spent 18 months in French oak. It is a dark, backward wine but with air reticent notes of dark fruit and chocolate emerge. Sweet overtones of licorice and toasted oak linger on the long finish. This is a generous, enveloping wine but it needs a few years in bottle to fully come together. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2024.

About the Estate:

The Ricasoli family ancestry has roots from the ancient Longobarde family fating all the way back to the 7th century. The Ricasoli history began as part of the noble feudal family of the Emperor Carlo Magno.

Actually they made a complete renovation of the estate. Lasrge investment were made to restore the land and it's original grape varieties (that has been in the estate for centuries) as well as for the winemaking facilities and cellars. The 500 acres of vineyards, all of which are located around the castle, hace been completely replanted with two objectives: to reconstruct the personality of each vineyard according to ancient traditions and persue the continuous role of producing excellent wine, which began in the 19th century, while incorporating a modern element.

The famous enologist Carlo Ferrini oversees the winemaking at Barone Ricasoli giving the wines a modern and innovative character. www.ricasoli.it
